Appalachian Institute for Renewable Energy
Through research, advocacy, education, outreach and innovative social finance, AIRE works to catalyze community-owned renewable energy across Appalachia, the Southeast, and beyond. By promoting, facilitating, and capitalizing community-owned renewable energy projects we aim to promote a more sustainable and equitable economy.
The Appalachian Institute for Renewable Energy (AIRE) helps community-based organizations, such as congregations of faith, neighborhood associations, nonprofits, town governments and educational institutions develop and own renewable energy systems.
We’ve pioneered a unique project development process based on innovative legal agreements that allow third-party investors to develop renewable energy systems and make a modest return on their investment via state and federal renewable energy incentives. Community renewable energy developers can then donate their systems to community-based organizations or sell them to the entity at a greatly discounted price.
