Take Action: Petitions
About CPN's Petition Tool
As part of our ongoing effort to help our members grow and build power, we have a set of tools and resources for CPN partners.
One of these tools lets you create online petitions or email campaigns targeted at specific recipients. Recipients can be legislators, elected officials, business leaders, or other targets.
At the end of the campaign we make sure you have a complete list of all of the people who took action (unlike sites like Signon.org or Change.org, which don’t let you have email addresses of people who took action, and then they fundraise from your list).

Take Action: Current Petitions
CPN member Vineyard Power is advocating for a policy that would provide preference in offshore federal wind leasing projects that have meaninful local community benefits and participation. The policy would give an advantage to offshore wind projects that have meaningful local community benefits and participation. That includes projects that provide jobs, affordable energy prices, and opportunities for local ownership in projects.
Help ensure that local communities receive direct benefits from offshore wind farm development by signing this petition!
Take Action: Past Petitions
In May 2013 The Minnesota state legislature considered legislation that would establish a state solar standard of 1.5% by 2020, allow for community solar projects, and support Minnesota-based renewable energy manufacturers. We worked with the Minnesota Clean Energy & Jobs coalition to set up an email campaign that sent individual messages to state legislators urging them to support the Energy Omnibus Bill.
In April 2013 we worked with community members of No Name Key, a small off-grid island in Florida whose residents were fighting for their right to remain off-grid. The group circulated a petition demanding that the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners, Keys Energy Services and the Public Service Commission stop their efforts to bring utility electric lines to the island.
We recently partnered with the Alabama Solar Association to help Alabama residents fight for their right to net meter. Using our online tools they’ve launched an email campaign that targets the County Commissioner and Chamber of Commerce, asking that they change their policies or risk losing important tourism revenue. To date we’ve had 587 people take action!
We’ve worked with groups in Maryland that are advocating for legislation that would support a community solar pilot program. We helped them develop the petition, target key legislators on specific committees, and circulate the petition among Maryland networks.
VA SUN, a network of solar supporters in Virginia, voiced their support for solar in their state. In other states, schools, churches, nonprofits, and other community organizations are able to go solar and save money on their utility bills using a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). We helped VA SUN circulate a petition asking Governor McDonnell to support PPAs in the state.
